What am I saying?

Now that I've got my CD out there, I am now getting a lot of questions about what I am saying.  I guess there must be times where I could speak a little more clearly.  I thought that I would share some lyrics to some of my songs as well as provide insight into what I was thinking.  My first song I thought I would share is called "10 Feet".  The song is about how life can be so unclear and that as much as you try to plan for things, there are always the unexpected things that jump out in front of you.  Oftentimes, I find there are hidden gems to be found in those surprises, much better than something planned for.  Here are the lyrics...enjoy!

Verse 1
Open my eyes to the city by the bay
Fog rolls in right in front of me
Clearing a vision of what happened yesterday
Sitting here inside my own mind
Where is the path going to lead over time
Visions of a clearing I can’t seem to find

Chorus
I can’t, can’t see ten feet in front of me
I won’t, won’t try to hard to hard to see
I will, will find a way to keep me at ease
I don’t, don’t know where I would rather be

Verse 2
Straining my eyes to see up ahead
Fog thickens up covers my head
Can’t understand where it is I will end
Try to predict direction of my soul
If it’s ahead how will I know
Intuition usually lets me go

I'm brand new to this site and not much of a blogger, but here goes...

So you know who I am...I run a nonprofit by day serving at-risk kids in San Francisco (www.rocksf.org) and do the music thing when I'm not at work.  I suppose I say that because my two passions in life are my work with kids and music and the more that I can combine the two, the better for everyone (at least I hope so).  I am a bit of a latecomer to the music scene as I really only started performing as a bass player 5 or 6 years ago.  Finally, only 2 years ago, I got the courage to write and perform my own music and have been going strong ever since.  I never realized how rewarding and cleansing writing music could be and never imagined being the focus of attention on stage.  Now that I've gotten comfortable, I absolutely love it.

As I started off mostly playing the bass, I've always gravitated toward percussive, syncopated sounds.  I think my music reflects my background as my songs are driven by my style of acoustic guitar playing.  My words come from my past, my present and my future and I take inspiration from the world around me.  Particularily, my song "Take Me Away" is the world in which I work through my eyes.  It speaks to the struggles and hardships of the have nots (be sure to visit www.curtyagi.com for samples).

In my blog, I'll probably talk about my music, my nonprofit and anything that is on my mind.  Be sure to check back weekly for more...
